It has been a pleasure and honor to serve as the Executive Director for the past eight, going into nine years. In mid-October I will leave Southeast Seattle Education Coalition for a new job in the education sector. SESEC is strong and special because of all of you who make it what it is.
SESEC’s staff – Michael, Mindy, and Vivian, and the board will shepherd SESEC through a thoughtful transition and leadership search. Please join the board at the September SESEC meeting to give your input on what makes SESEC special and where you hope the next Executive Director will take the organization.
When people ask me about SESEC I tell them it is the people and relationships that make the organization unique. Thank you for sharing of yourselves with me and for contributing to the success, the magic, the advocacy and voice that has brought important changes to public education in Seattle. There is more to do and I look forward to watching and supporting as a partner to SESEC.
Mahalo Nui Loa, A Hui Hou Kākou,
Erin
The SESEC Board of Directors would like to announce the transition of longtime Executive Director, Erin Okuno. This announcement is also being made by Governor Inslee, where she has been appointed the new Director of the Office of the Education Ombuds. Erin has served as SESEC’s Executive Director for over eight years and has led the organization through tremendous growth and transformation.
The Board of Directors will conduct a search for a new Executive Director and will also be working to support SESEC staff during this transition. We invite our partners and SE Seattle community to the September 15th SESEC meeting from 12-1.30 p.m. where we’ll seek input from the Coalition regarding our Executive Director search. If you cannot attend this meeting, please complete this brief survey on qualities you would like in the next Executive Director.
